God is not content with being our part-time Lord. In First Samuel 7:3, when Samuel addressed the house of Israel, he said:

If you return to the lord with all your heart, remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the lord and serve Him alone; and He will deliver you from the hands of the Philistines.

Just as Samuel addressed them then, we too must take an introspective look at exactly what holds first priority in our lives. If God is competing for first place with anything else in your life, then He is not truly Lord of your life. The Israelites knew who God was, but over the course of time, they allowed other things to capture their focus. God is either Lord of all or He is not Lord at all. Some of us may have allowed other gods to come in and capture our focus. It could be money, worry, doubt, material things, etc. God deserves our undivided attention! If He knows the number of hairs on our heads, surely He knows how to provide for us. Our responsibility is to put our faith and trust completely in Him and not waver, knowing that what God has promised He is also able to perform (see Rom. 4:21). It is time to remove the gods that come and steal some of our service away from the one true and living God!

Surely there will be times in your life when you may be afraid, unsure, and doubtful. I’m sure that the Israelites faced the same thing, but they removed the gods and experienced victory, restoration, and peace. When we put God first and serve Him with an undivided heart, we too will experience the blessing that they did.
